New 'Bluehenge' stone-circle found only a mile from Stonehenge.

A destroyed stone circle which once had up to 30 stones and was 20m in diameter has been found a mile from stonehenge, and on the ceremonial pathway known as the 'Avenue'.

This exciting discovery opens a new chapter in the history of the stonehenge region.. at the same time as connecting previous discoveries.

The postholes for the stones have been discovered, with hippings of bluestone in them (From the Prescilly mountains Wales), however, no stones have been found as yet.

Bluehenge was put up 5,000 years ago - around the same time as work began on Stonehenge - and appears to have been a miniature version of it. The two circles stood together for hundreds of years before Bluehenge was dismantled. Researchers believe its stones were used to enlarge Stonehenge during one of a number of redevelopments.
